Women's World Cup 2022: ICC's blunder creates confusion over IND-SA warm-up game result, Yastika Bhatia comes out to clarify
ICC's scorecard initially mentioned that South Africa beat India by four wickets, although it was later updated to India won by two runs.
The Women’s World Cup warm-up game between India and South Africa concluded, however, not before generating its share of confusion owing to a gaffe by the International Cricket Council. Post the game ended the ICC amended the scorecard of the match on numerous occasions, creating confusion with regards to the outcome of the said fixture.
To start with, the scorecard mentioned that South Africa beat India by four wickets. However, within the next half hour, a scoresheet of the match went viral on social media stating it was India who had won the game by a narrow margin of two runs. A few minutes later, the ICC website also happened to update the scorecard and it eventually showed India as winners.
Reportedly, South Africa required eight runs to win in the last over, but they were only able to score five, thus India won the encounter by two runs. Notably, there was also a stage where the scorecard suggested that India won the game by one run.
Batting first, India posted 244/9 on the scoreboard. The team started slow with the bat but were able to recover and put on a decent total riding on a century by Harmanpreet Kaur and a half-century from Yastika Bhatia. While Kaur made 103 off 114 balls with nine boundaries to her name, Bhatia scored a valuable 58. The captain, Mithali Raj was run out for a duck due to a mix up between her and Bhatia.

Notably, Bhatia took to Twitter herself to clear the confusion by posting an image of the official scoresheet
Meanwhile, India’s next and final warm-up fixture is against the West Indies on March 1 in Rangiora. The tournament is scheduled to start on March 4 with hosts New Zealand going against West Indies in Mount Maunganui.
