Veteran Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami became the first women’s cricketer to take 250 wickets in the ODI format when she accounted for England opener Tammy Beaumont’s wicket in India’s fourth match in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup in Mount Maunganui. With 180 scalps, former Australian fast bowler Cathryn Fitzpatrick and West Indies spinner Anisa Mohammed are joint-second on the list behind Goswami. The Indian seamer achieved the milestone in her 199th ODI match.

Jhulan got Beaumont out of LBW as she took her 41st wicket in the World Cup tournaments. Notably, Goswami surpassed Lyn Fullston’s tally of 39 World Cup wickets in the last match against West Indies in Hamilton and became the highest wicket-taker in the history of World Cup events. She achieved the feat by dismissing Anisa Mohammed in the 36th over the match which India won by a massive margin of 155 runs.

Meanwhile, the right-arm medium seamer dismissed Tammy Beaumont for the seventh time in ODIs. She has also got England’s Jenny Gunn out as many times in her ODI career. No other bowler has got the better of Beaumont than Jhulan in the 50-overs format.

Jhulan seventh Indian overall to snare 250 ODI wickets

Meanwhile, te right-arm quick also became the seventh Indian bowler (including men’s and women’s) to achieve the landmark of 250 wickets in the 50-overs format. She joined the likes of some greats like Anil Kumble (334), Javagal Srinath (315), Ajit Agarkar (288), Zaheer Khan (269), Harbhajan Singh (265), and Kapil Dev (253).

Jhulan who made her ODI debut way back in the year 2002 against England in Chennai has so far taken 250 wickets in 199 matches with an average of 21.82 and the best figures of 6/31. Her economy rate reads as just 3.36 and strike rate 38.9. Twice she has got five-wicket hauls and seven times she has taken four-wicket hauls in her 20-year- long career so far.
