It was a memorable day, and an even more memorable ton for Australian wicket-keeper batter Alyssa Healy as she shattered multiple records during the final of the Women’s ODI World Cup. Opening the innings, Healy scored a glorious 170 (138), hitting 26 fours, against England at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. Healy’s husband, and Australian Men’s team’s star pacer Mitchell Starc cheered for her from the stands and celebrated her remarkable ton.
Her knock, supported by half-centuries by Rachael Haynes 68 (93), and Beth Mooney 62 (47), helped Australia put up a score of 356/5, the highest total by a team in the Women’s World Cup final. The previous record was also held by them when they registered 259/7 against West Indies in the 2013 WC.
Healy received a standing ovation for her knock, after being stumped by Amy Jones
When Healy scored her 100th run, Mitchell Starc was visibly proud and happy. He stood up and lauded her achievement from the stands. Starc’s serious look turned into a big smile as he saw Healy bring reach the three-figure mark. Mitchell Starc had landed in New Zealand to witness Australia’s World Cup final and watch her wife play.

Healy overtook Adam Gilchrist to become the player with the highest score in an ODI World Cup Final (Men or women). She also ended up as the highest scorer of this year’s tournament and became the first player to cross the 500-run mark in the history of Women’s World Cup scoring 509 runs in nine matches that she played.
Notably, Healy had scored a century against West Indies as well in the semi-final, when she smashed 129 in 138 balls. She was one of the major reasons behind Australia’s victory against India at the ICC Women’s T20I World Cup 2020 at the iconic at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
A combined effort from the top-order helped Australia clinch the World Cup for the seventh time. They now stand strong as the World Champions in the T20I and the ODI format.
