Cricket fans worldwide are glued to their TV screens as arch-rivals Australia and England are battling it out in the final of the Women’s World Cup 2022. Having been unbeaten in the competition, the Aussies took the field as favourites as they would be determined to clinch a record seventh title. Meanwhile, the Women in Yellow have a special supporter cheering for them from the stands and he’s none other than Mitchell Starc.

The Aussie fast bowler, who was last seen during Australia’s 1-0 Test series triumph over Pakistan last month, landed in New Zealand to support his wife and wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy, who has been in sublime touch in this competition so far.

More than a couple of times, Starc was spotted enjoying the game at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The left-arm speedster would be pretty happy with the initial proceedings as the Aussies crossed the 150-run mark inside 29 overs with his better half giving England bowlers a tough time.

Mitchell Starc had pulled out of international assignment to support Alyssa Healy

Notably, this is not the first time when Starc is supporting Healy from the stands in a World Cup final. The fast bowler had pulled out midway through Australia’s 2020 ODI series against South Africa to support his wife in the Women’s T20 World Cup final. Healy put up a batting exhibition in that clash and scored 75 off just 39 deliveries. As a result, Australia defeated India by 85 runs to clinch the title.

Healy has made an impressive start in this clash as well and Starc would want her to play yet another match-winning knock. It must be noted that Healy has scored over 400 runs in the competition with her average being over 50 and a strike rate of close to 100. The 32-year-old has also been brilliant with her wicketkeeping gloves on.

Speaking of the ongoing clash, the coin landed in England’s favour, and Heather Knight elected to field first. Australia have so far embraced the challenge brilliantly and the Three Lions need to bounce back soon.
