Women's World Cup 2022: Sophie Ecclestone, Hayley Matthews, Marizanne Kapp gain big in the ODI rankings

Impressive performances in the ongoing 2022 ICC Women’s World Cup has helped several star players to take major leaps in the latest ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings. Several cricketers including Sophie Ecclestone, Amy Satterthwaite, Marizanne Kapp and Laura Wolvaardt have improved their rankings after performing well in the tournament.
Although defending champions England lost all of their three games so far, their left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone has clinched the number one spot in the bowling rankings. The 22-year-old overtook Australia’s Jess Jonassen. Ecclestone has been a shining performer for her team in the tournament so far. She registered impressive figures of 3/20 in England’s loss against West Indies and followed that up with a spell of 1/23 against South Africa.
Other prominent gainer in the bowling rankings is South African pacer Marizanne Kapp. The right-arm pacerk who registered her career-best figures of 5/45 against the defending champions, has seen her jump from 8th position to number fourth. The 32-year-old allrounder has also managed to retain her number-three spot in the allrounder rankings.
Amy Satterthwaite, Laura Wolvaardt climb up in batting rankings
White ferns batter Amy Satterthwaite and South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt have also gained big in the rankings. New Zealand batter Satterthwaite was a key performer for her side in the match against India. The batter scored an impressive knock of 75 runs which helped her side to register a win by 62 runs. She also scored 44 runs against Australia. As a result, the 35-year-old has risen upto five places, claiming the third spot in the latest rankings. South African batter Laura Wolvaardt has also broken into the top 10 of the batting rankings, reaching the fifth spot.
In allrounder’s list, some vital performances by West Indian Hayley Matthews has seen her gain two spots as she reaches number-two rankings in the allrounder list. Australia’s allrounder Ashleigh Garnder after her good outing against New Zealand has also gained two spots reaching number the seventh spot.
