India’s  ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 campaign came to an end after a heartbreaking three-wicket loss at the hands of South Africa at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on March 27. This was a must-win game for the Indian eves in order to qualify for the semifinals and they had the contest in the bag until the penultimate delivery of the final over.

While it was a sad day for the Indian women’s cricket team, it was a day of happiness for the West Indies whose qualification hopes were hanging in the balance before this clash. Their last league game against the Proteas had been washed out due to rain, which earned them a crucial point and pushed India down to the fifth position in the points table.

West Indies celebrate after qualifying for the Women’s World Cup 2022 semis

In the video posted by Windies Cricket on their official Twitter handle, the West Indies Women seemed to be tense and curious at the beginning of the video, but their joy knew no bounds once Mignon du Preez helped South Africa get past the finish line in a final-ball thriller against India. The West Indies players immediately started dancing and hugging each other out of happiness as they became the fourth and final team to make the semis.

They would have been knocked out had the Indians ended up on the winning side but that was not to be as the Windies lived to fight another day.

West Indies will meet undefeated Australia in the first semifinal at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on March 30, whereas the defending champions England will lock horns with South Africa at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on March 31.

Chasing 275, middle-order batter Mignon du Preez anchored the Proteas chase before being caught by Harmanpreet Kaur at long-on off the penultimate delivery of the final over. However, replays showed that it was a front foot no-ball as she got a reprieve. Du Preez eventually went on to get the job done for South Africa.
