'World class' Jasprit Bumrah is bowling really nicely: Kane Williamson
The New Zealand star threw his support behind India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah who has struggled to take wickets since his return to international cricket.
After the monumental whitewash in the three-match ODI series over India, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has made it clear that his team would not rest on the laurels and instead focus on the upcoming Test series against the world number one side. New Zealand will be desperate to get back to winning ways in Tests after their disastrous outing in Australia in their last Test assignment.
The Black Caps proved no match for Australia and suffered a humiliating 3-0 whitewash at the hands of their trans-Tasman rivals. New Zealand have the momentum ahead of the two-match Test series against India. After losing the T20I series 5-0, New Zealand bounced back in style to clean sweep the three-match ODI series.
On Tuesday, they won the third ODI by five wickets. Bowling first, they restricted India to 296 for 7. In reply, the Kane Williamson-led side chased down the total inside 48 overs thanks to fifties from Martin Guptill, Henry Nicholls and Colin de Grandhomme. Speaking after the game, Williamson pointed out that the team’s focus is now on the Tests.
“It is a different format but there are some parts that I guess guys will get confidence from, going into that series. So, the focus does change and the guys are looking forward to that,” Williamson said in the post-match press conference.
‘Disappointing to lose T20Is’ – Kane Williamson
While Kane Williamson was happy with the win in the ODIs, he was also quick to mention that the loss in the T20I series was disappointing. At the same time, he counted some positives from the series as he pointed out the close games that went India’s way.
“It is always disappointing when you lose, you always want to win but there are a heap of good things throughout that T20 series. We all saw the fine margins that were there in terms of results and sometimes it does not go in your way but in terms of the progression, I think that was there,” he said.
The New Zealand star also threw his support behind India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah who has struggled to take wickets since his return to international cricket. Bumrah did not take a single wicket in the three-match ODI series.
“We know that Bumrah is a world-class bowler in all formats. He obviously came back to cricket after a period of time off as well but from what I saw, he is bowling really nicely,” Williamson said.
