Team India has received the much-needed and huge boost ahead of the World Cup with their allrounder Kedar Jadhav being declared fit for the tournament. There were apprehensions all around that Jadhav would miss the flight to England or would miss the initial stage of the competition after he injured his shoulder during the IPL. Jadhav had suffered the injury while fielding for Chennai Super Kings in their last league game against Kings XI Punjab.
He had later missed the playoffs and the final, sending fears across the nation. However, chief selector MSK Prasad has announced that Jadhav has regained his full fitness. The former India wicketkeeper has revealed that the selectors have received a medical certificate which has declared Jadhav fit for the marquee event in England and Wales. Prasad also stated that Jadhav would travel to the UK with the entire squad on Wednesday (May 22).
“We have got the medical certificate declaring Jadhav is fit to play in the World Cup. He will travel to the UK with the rest of the squad on Wednesday,” chief selector MSK Prasad told CricketNext.
The BCCI had called back team physio Patrick Farhart from Australia to aid in Jadhav’s rehabilitation from injury over the last two weeks. The two stayed and worked together in Mumbai before the batsman underwent a fitness test last Thursday in Mumbai.
“We received the fitness certificate from Farhart on Monday and we are satisfied with the report. Jadhav should be available for India’s first game against South Africa,” Prasad said.
India will be delighted to have Jadhav back. The middle-order batsman is a crucial member of the Virat Kohli-led side. He is not only a reliable middle-order batsman but is also a very handy spinner. Time and again, the team has relied on him for breakthroughs and more often than not he delivers.
India’s preliminary squad unchanged for World Cup
With Kedar Jadhav declared fit, Team India will go to England with the same squad that was announced last month. All the teams had the provision to change their squads till May 23 without any permission from the ICC. However, India is unlikely to make any change to the squad. India, meanwhile, will open their World Cup campaign on June 5. Before that, the Men in Blue will also play a couple of warm-up games.
