World Cup 2019: David Miller spotted hitting Aiden Markram’s box during New Zealand clash
Very few things go unnoticed these days.
Pakistan put the final nail in South Africa’s coffin by beating them at Lord’s on Sunday. The Proteas crashed out of the World Cup with the loss as they have only one win from seven matches in the competition so far. Their batsmen including David Miller have come under the scanner for not putting up consistent scores with the willow. However, the southpaw is likely to become the talk of the town not for his performances but for the video which is going viral at the moment.
Social media is one such place where nothing goes unnoticed and David Miller’s cheeky actions after the Pakistan game were picked by the cameras. Chasing a total of 309 runs, South Africa could only reach 259 runs for the loss of nine wickets which confirmed their exit from the tournament. There were grim faces in their camp but the team had to come out to shake the hands with the opposition.
However, after completing the formalities, while going back to the dressing room, David Miller was spotted hitting Aiden Markram’s box not once but twice. While Markram ignored or might not have known about it, the social media gimmicks didn’t let it go unnoticed.
Here’s the video:
Below-par tournament for Miller
There is no doubt that South Africa have struggled more due to their batsmen in the World Cup this time. But David Miller, in particular, has been disappointing. Being the senior player, he should’ve taken up the responsibility to score more runs on various occasions. But the left-hander couldn’t get the team over the line scoring only 136 runs in four innings at an average of 34.
He also fumbled in the field during the crucial game against New Zealand. Fielding at the mid-wicket position, he first dropped Kane Williamson and then didn’t collect the ball cleanly to let go a run-out chance begging of the same batsman. The chances eventually cost South Africa the match.
