World Cup 2019: England and South Africa trolled in Star Sport’s new Cricket ka Crown TVC
England and South Africa are the teams who couldn't take the glory home.
The ICC World Cup 2019 is just over a week away and preparations are on for the opening match between hosts England and South Africa on May 30. The tournament returns to England and Wales after a gap of 20 years and will see Australia trying to defend their crown which they won in Australia and New Zealand in CWC 2o15.
Surprisingly both of these teams are yet to win any 50-over World title, despite England making the finals three times and South Africa making it to semi-finals multiple times. This tournament also reverts back to the format used 27 years ago in 1992 tournament, as each of the 10 teams will go against one another once in a round robin format, and the top four teams on points table going into the semi-finals.
The promotion for the World Cup is catching like wildfire with Star Sports, the official broadcasters of the tournament producing some hilarious content under its campaign ‘Cricket Ka Crown’ for the mega event.
Star Sports comes up with a trolling TVC for the opening encounter of the event
The first video of the campaign saw all the contenders fighting for the World Cup in front of the Queen of England, but in their newest TVC, they get down to trolling South Africa and England, who will be playing the opener on May 30. Neither of the teams has won the World Cup and this was hilariously portrayed in the ad.
In the newest TVC, the representatives of England and South Africa see a cup of tea on a table and move towards it while competing to see who reaches there first. However, as they are a step away from the cup, the Australian representative picks the cup up and joins others from Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and West Indies. Then representatives of World Cup winning teams like India, West Indies, Australia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka make fun of representatives of Proteas and Poms for not having won the World title yet.
“Winning the #CricketKaCrown isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, is it? #ENG & #SA – two teams who are in search the glory for the 1st time – meet in the ICC #CWC19 opener!,” tweeted Star Sports.
The tournament is seeing Australia, hosts England and India as favourites to lift the title given their previous record in the event and recently form which shows the hosts being the no.1 ranked ODI team and India being no.2 ranked on ICC ODI rankings.
