Ahead of the World Cup, England has revealed the brand new kit their stars will be donning as they look to end the country’s long wait for the coveted trophy. The jersey is a throwback to England’s kit of the 1992 World Cup when they made it to the final and lost to Pakistan by 22 runs. England will be desperately hoping that the new key proves lucky for them as they start the tournament as firm favourites.

The sky-blue top has stripes in different shades of blue running across the shoulders with thin red lines in-between. There is also a navy cuff on the sleeves. Skipper Eoin Morgan along with teammates Adil Rashid and Jonny Bairstow unveiled the stunning retro style kit. The trio modelled for the jersey right after England announced their final 15-man squad for the World Cup, set to start on May 30.

Speaking at the launch of the kit, Morgan said that his team can cope with the increased pressure of giving the nation its first-ever 50-over World Cup. Morgan also opined that the team is treating the tournament as ‘huge opportunity’ before stating that the players are looking to express themselves like the way they have done in the past four years.

“Absolutely no regrets, we’re positioned in the best possible place at the moment,” Morgan said. “It’s a huge opportunity, we’re looking to express ourselves and continue to play as we have in the last four years. The other one is to inspire the next generation of cricketers to come into the game and pick up a ball and a bat, hopefully, come out of the tournament worshipping one of the guys in our team.”

England favourites for the World Cup

Albeit England, not winning a World Cup before, they are definitely the favourites to end their duck this time around. In eleven editions of the World Cup, they made it to the final three times but ended up on the losing side on all occasions. In the last World Cup, they faced a humiliating first round exit. But since then they have turned around their fortunes remarkably.

England is currently the best ODI team in the World Cup. In the last four years, they have twice set a new record for the highest total in an ODI inning, scoring 444 for 3 and 481 for 6 against Australia. They recently blanked Pakistan 4-0, scoring more than 300 runs in all the games. The Morgan-led side will open their campaign on May 30 against South Africa.
