World Cup 2019: Four teams have unveiled ‘home’ & ‘away’ kits; India yet to reveal

The cricket World Cup of 2019 is unique for it has a touch of football with respect to the ‘home’ and ‘away’ kit. To make the opponents more vivid, especially when teams with similar jersey colours are playing, the ICC has gone for two different sets of jerseys that have contrasting shades. While England will play in their same kit throughout owing to the fact that they are the hosts, Pakistan has been granted the permission to sport green jersey against teams like South Africa and Bangladesh who also wear green.

India, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka will also have to wear away kits while facing each other since they have similar jerseys with blue shades. Defending champions Australia, last time’s finalists New Zealand and former champions West Indies have been exempted from the rule given their unique colours – yellow, black and maroon, respectively.

“For televised ICC events all participating teams will be required to provide for two different coloured kits, except for the host country who has a preference in the choice of colour and may, if it chooses to do so, provide only one coloured kit to be worn in all matches throughout the event. In advance of the event the teams will be notified which coloured kit will be worn in each match,” the ICC said in a release.

Four of the five teams that need to sport coloured jerseys – Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa have already unveiled their away kits while speculation is on over India’s away jersey which is yet to be unveiled.

Bangladesh’s ‘home’ and ‘away’ kits most contrasting

Bangladesh’s away jersey is a complete contrast to their home one as it is mostly red with shades of green, while the home one is green with a patch of red. South Africa, too, has a contrasting kit as their away one is yellow with green shades. The home kit of the Proteas features shades of green and yellow borderline. Afghanistan’s home and away kits are largely similar to the away one having more red than the home one. Sri Lanka has come up with an impressive jersey this time and their home and away ones look similar with the latter having more yellow than the home one.

The World Cup kicks off on Thursday with England taking on South Africa at the Kennington Oval, London.
