World Cup 2019: Guests warned at Team India hotel for violating players’ privacy

The ICC Cricket World Cup witnessed an uncomfortable turn of events at a hotel in Birmingham where the management reportedly warned three guests, apparently from India, to strictly adhere to “expected protocols in terms of behaviour”. The authorities at Hyatt Regency on Bridge Street even told that them that “inappropriate conduct would lead to an immediate check-out” and there will be no second warning.

According to a report in The Telegraph, Kolkata, the three guests seemed to be in an inebriated condition. They were seen shouting and becoming aggressive at the lobby of the hotel that is the address of Team India. The incident happened at 4:30 pm on Friday. The accused guests were prevented by the security personnel to get into the lifts. Later, a senior member of the hotel management was seen speaking to the three guests.

Besides the hotel’s own security, personnel from SES Security, which has been roped in by the ICC to oversee, among other things, arrangements in the team hotels at cities hosting the matches of the quadrennial show, were also on the sport.

The report further added that one member of Team India’s support staff had suggested the hotel’s management declare the three accused as persona non grata for they had violated the players’ privacy by demanding photographs. They were even accused of trying to take pictures of the players’ family members. The matter became so serious that the Hyatt Regency chose to issue a “warning”, an unambiguous one, to the three guests.
