The Indian team will leave for the ICC World Cup 2019 on May 22 and almost every expert and many of former players have listed the Asian giants as one of the semi-finalists in the tournament and contenders to win the whole thing.

The Indian team has betted on a mix of experience and youth in their squad and also on Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni to do the dirty work of big-hitting in the death overs of the match. 2011 World Cup winner Harbhajan Singh feels that the team management must look at the option of giving the duo all the freedom to go after the bowling and tear them apart to put pressure on the opposition.

Dhoni will take centre stage in the upcoming World Cup

Harbhajan Singh feels that MS Dhoni should be asked to bat freely in the upcoming ICC event, as he is at his best when going after the bowling rather than defending. He also said that no only Dhoni, but Hardik Pandya must also be given the license to take on the bowlers from the very first delivery.

“I feel he is at his best when he hits from the onset. Some of his best innings have come when he started the onslaught straightaway. I feel the team management should give him and Hardik Pandya the license to bat the way they want to. No restrictions, only go for the jugular at No 5,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying by Timesnownews.

He highlighted how Dhoni would always hit the spinners for a six as soon as they were brought on to bowl in his heydays and that’s how he should play in the upcoming tournament as well. “In the yesteryears, Dhoni would hit a six in the very second ball once the spinner is brought in. He can still do it as I have seen at the CSK nets. Uske chhakkon mein bahot jaan hai (His sixes are interesting to watch),” the Punjab off-spinner added.

India will begin their 2019 World Cup campaign on June 5 against South Africa at Rose Bowl in Southampton and will face Pakistan on June 16 in Manchester.
