World cup 2019: India is lucky for having breakthrough bowlers, says Rahul Dravid
Dravid puts weights behind the Men in Blue as the Kohli-led side will be the Cup favourites alongside Australia and England.
If anything can be gauged from the ongoing ODI series between England and Pakistan is that the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 will be a graveyard for the bowlers, given that even scores of ~350 are been chased with ease by batsmen. The ICC event can be expected to be a high scoring affair with flat pitches on display with little to no help for bowlers.
However, the team which has bowlers who can adapt to the situation and pick wickets at regular intervals for their team can prove to be the trump card in the tournament. Such was the case when India toured England in 2018 and its bowlers were mighty effective in English conditions in the limited overs series. The sentiment is shared by former India captain Rahul Dravid as well, who says that Team India will be benefitted by having wicket-taking bowlers in its lineup.
It would be a high scoring World Cup, says Dravid
“In a World Cup, I believe, having experienced some of the conditions in England last year with the A tour, it would be a high scoring World Cup. And in a high scoring World Cup, having bowlers who can take wickets in the middle will be very important. I think India is lucky in that regard,” Dravid was quoted as saying by Timesnownews.
This is Virat Kohli’s first World Cup as captain of the Indian team and it boasts of a terrific top order with the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Kohli himself, with MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, and Kedar Jadhav shouldering the middle order of the team. But the biggest USP of the team is their formidable bowling lineup which consists of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal all of whom were part of 2018 tour to England.
“People like (Jasprit) Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal… (We have) got bowlers who can take wickets. Teams that are taking wickets through those middle-overs in those high scoring games have a better chance of restricting the opposition,” Dravid put his faith in the Men in Blue, who will head into the competition as one of the favourites with the likes of England and Australia.
They will kickstart their campaign on June 5 against South Africa at the Rose Bowl.
