World Cup 2019: Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul bromance on Twitter
Rahul and Agarwal have played cricket together from school level.
The Indian team is sitting pretty on the second spot in the ICC World Cup 2019 points table with one last league match to go in the tournament. This happened even after injuries to key players like Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar, who had to leave the tournament midway even as the team is looking forward to repeating their 2011 success.
Team India had to call upon the services of Rishabh Pant to replace Dhawan and then Mayank Agarwal in place of Shankar. Pant has played two games and impressed everyone with his fearless batting, while the Karnataka batsman waits his opportunity. He came into the contention for India selection after a brilliant run in domestic cricket as well as with India A on tours of England and otherwise.
Mayank made his Test debut on the tour of Australia during India’s historic series win down under, making two half-centuries in the two Test matches he played. With the emergence of Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal, there is high pressure on the likes of M Vijay, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan at the top of the order to keep their places intact.
Rahul and Mayank share a friendship that goes all the way back to school times, as they both played for the same school and then FC cricket for Karnataka. They also played for the same IPL franchise Royal Challenger Bangalore, albeit at different times and now the duo is enjoying the fruits of their labour.
KL Rahul took to Twitter in order to reminisce back to their days of struggle with Agarwal and posted, “Started from the bottom, now we here…????Welcome Homie @mayankcricket”
Agarwal also replied saying, “What a warm welcome @klrahul11 ???????? Glad to be here!”
With Mayank called up in the ODI team as well over Ambati Rayudu, it shows that the selectors are looking to build a team for the future and want to have alternatives ready for Rohit and Shikhar in opening spots. KL Rahul is taking up that position in absence of Shikhar, and Mayank waiting in the wings we may soon see two Karnataka lads facing the new ball for India.
Meanwhile, India face Sri Lanka in their last league match and Australia go up against South Africa for the last league game, their positions at the top of the ladder will be finalized and with that, the semi-final scenarios will get clear.
