World Cup 2019: Mohammed Shami proud that Indian bowling unit called one of the best in world
Mohammed Shami is in a good form as he picked up 19 wickets in 14 matches played for Kings XI Punjab in the recently concluded IPL.
The Indian team is scheduled to fly to England and Wales for the ICC World Cup 2019 on May 22 and the focal point of everyone is how amazing the Indian team’s bowling attack is. Virat Kohli’s men have changed the perception of Team India being a batting heavy side to being one of the most balanced units going into the ICC mega event.
The development has taken some time, especially after the 2015 World Cup, as the team management procured some amazing talents and nurtured them into the world beaters they are. Now, captain Kohli has the best death bowler in the world who possess a killer yorker in Jasprit Bumrah, the perfect pacer to take advantage of the swing available in England in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and in Mohammed Shami, Kohli has a workhorse bowler who can bowl at top speeds whenever called onto bowl.
Shami says it’s a matter of pride to be among the best bowling unit
Mohammed Shami, one of the best exponents of movement off the pitch, is proud that the Indian bowling unit is considered one of the best in the world going into the World Cup. “Things have started improving in the last five to seven years and to be honest it has been a process and not something that has happened overnight. We have been bowling as a unit and that helps. The best part is that along with variety, we have an attack that can bowl fast. Having skills and pace together is the USP of this side as that somewhere increases the confidence of the attack,” Shami was quoted as saying by India Today.
Mohammad Shami bowled very well for the Kings XI Punjab in the recently concluded IPL 2019 and picked 19 wickets in 14 matches with the best bowling figures of 3/21. Shami felt that bowling consistently for KXIP has helped him gain crucial momentum going into the mega event in England and knows that he can adapt well to shorter format and adjust his line and length to get success in white ball cricket.
“To be honest, it is like a dream that has come true and I feel very proud that today people talk about our bowling unit as one of the best — a thing that wasn’t heard much, but is now called our strength,” he further explained.
