Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Navdeep Saini has been one of the success stories of this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL). The tearaway pacer has been so impressive this season that he has even made it to the standby list for the World Cup even without playing a single ODI game. That he got the nod ahead of the likes of Umesh Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Siddharth Kaul and others completely tells the impact he has had this season.

Even on the slower tracks of India, he has hurried the best of the batsmen with his raw pace. His use of bouncer has been equally impressive too. It should be noted that Saini will also be traveling with the World Cup squad as one of the four net bowlers alongside Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan and Deepak Chahar. And as he gears up to get a taste of high-level cricket, he has said he is ready for his big break in the mega event should the need arises.

Saini said that IPL has boosted his confidence and is hopeful of doing well at the World Cup if a chance arrives. He also opened up about his preparation and how his father taught him to give his best irrespective of the place he plays.

“Absolutely, the confidence of doing well in IPL will give me a big boost. If I get a chance in World Cup, I hope to do well,” Saini told reporters after Royal Challengers’ 10-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Friday.

“We talk during the matches but the most important thing is to pay full attention at the nets. If you do well at the nets, you will do well in a match as well. My dad has always told me to give your 110 per cent effort wherever you play. I’m putting in that extra effort always in practice session and in a match,” he added.

Having made his IPL debut this season, Saini has picked up 5 wickets from 8 games but it is his pace that has caught everyone’s attention. Remarkably, he has also conceded less than 8 runs per over.

Navdeep Saini gets Ashish Nehra’s nod

Former India pacer Ashish Nehra, who is serving as Royal Challengers’ bowling mentor, has earmarked Saini for greater things in the future. Nehra said that the Delhi pacer has all the ingredients to become a great bowler.

“He’s got pace and bounce and the most important thing is he’s confident right now especially in this format because it’s really quick,” Nehra told reporters earlier this week.
