He has always been seen as a prospect bright enough to play for India. He even made his international debut at the age of 20 when he appeared in a T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2015. But Sanju Samson, who has made quite a name for himself in tournaments like the Indian Premier League (IPL), is yet to make himself a regular member of the Indian team. The wicket-keeper-batsman, however, is feeling far from frustrated and is looking to earn a place for himself in the national side.
Samson, who made his IPL debut in 2013, has been a consistent scorer over the years. Last year, he scored over 440 runs and this year, he has gathered 337 runs from 11 matches and has hit a century and half-century. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) player has even impressed former West Indian captain Brian Lara who has expressed surprise that Samson was not even considered among India’s World Cup probable.
Samson impressed by Lara’s kind words
Samson though did not forget to express his gratitude for the legend. “It feels really great when legends like Lara talk highly of you. It boosts your confidence. I am very confident and happy with the way I have been playing. But I am excitingly waiting for my opportunity to play for India,” News18 cited reports as quoting Samson ahead of his team’s must-win final league game against the Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
“There is no point in getting frustrated. You can use it as motivation and push more. It’s not easy to get into the Indian team. You need to work hard and earn that spot.” The 24-year-old said he already has gone through tough phases in his career and the experience has only made him a better cricketer.
Rajasthan Royals lost a crucial point in the rain-hit game against Royal Challengers Bangalore as they were on their way to a win but remained alive in the tournament for another day after the Mumbai Indians beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad in super over on Thursday.
