The Tamil Nadu cricketer is the lastest player to be given the mantle of India’s middle muddle. In his limited opportunities Vijay Shankar has shown a lot of promise with his all-around skills. He has played a couple of fighting innings which got him the ticket to England. He has a textbook technique but hasn’t been tested against quality attacks which reduce his score to 6.

He provides depth to the Kohli-led side and can be a handy bowler on helpful pitches. Shankar can deliver with the ball, as it is tough to forget his last over heroics against Australia in a tight run-chase earlier in the year. The Indian team has not used him efficiently which brings down his score to a 5 in this facet.

Like his skipper, Shankar is an athlete who is a live wire on the field. He has a quick pair of legs which allows him to save runs for the team. He has taken some extraordinary catches while patrolling the boundaries. He deserves a rating of 8 even though his fielding skills have not been completely tested at this level.
