One of his five sixes hit the supporter.
The experienced Rohit Sharma had a memorable day in India’s penultimate league match of the 2019 World Cup against Bangladesh. At the Edgbaston in Birmingham, the 32-year-old weaved his magic and notched his fourth century of the mega event. The incredible knock also knocked the Tigers out of the tournament and the Nagpur-born batsman was rightly given the Player of the Match award.
En route his awe-inspiring knock, Rohit smacked seven fours and five over-boundaries. However, one of those sixes went and hit a girl, named Meena, in the stands. Later, Rohit didn’t miss out on the chance of meeting the young lady after India’s victory by 28 runs. The opener also gifted the fangirl, wearing the Indian jersey, with an autographed hat. The supporter was all smiles after Rohit made her day.

Rohit riding his luck
Rohit had his fair share of luck early in his stupendous knock. After India won the toss and elected to bat first, the batter started in a rather cautious manner. But in the fifth over, he tried to take on Mustafizur Rahman, attempting a pull shot. The leather hit the splice of the bat and swirled in the air. The ball was going straight down the throat of Tamim Iqbal at the deep mid-wicket region.
Unfortunately, Tamim, who has one of the safest hands in the Bangladesh team, couldn’t latch on to the ball. Rohit got a reprieve at the score of nine and he went on to pile more agony for the Tigers. He was involved in an opening-wicket stand of 180 runs with KL Rahul. Rohit got to his fifty off 45 balls and then raced away to the ton in 90 balls. He was eventually dismissed by Soumya Sarkar.
On the back of his efforts, India went on to score 314 in their 50 overs. For Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Saifuddin racked up 66 and 51 runs respectively. Unfortunately, they didn’t get enough support from their teammates and the Tigers were bowled out for 286 in 48 overs. Jasprit Bumrah castled Rubel Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman to dash Bangladesh’s semis hopes.
