World Cup 2019: Sanjay Bangar reveals what makes Team India unique

The Indian team will leave for the ICC World Cup 2019 on May 22. Considering that they are one of the favourites to lift the prestigious Cup, a lot is nervy on the 15-man who will participate in the event. It has also been confirmed that Kedar Jadhav, who is currently recovering from a shoulder injury will travel to England with the team.

The Men in Blue are going into the World Cup on back of their players having participated in the IPL 2019 and as much as the players might be under pressure, so are the support staff of the team who are responsible for the well-being of the player and helping them fine tune their game ahead of such a big tournament. Batting coach of the team Sanjay Bangar revealed the reason behind India’s success in the last two-three years in the 50-over format.

Bangar says consistently playing risk-free cricket makes Team India unique

“We’ve our own internal parameters as to how to approach ODIs. If we come close to those parameters, we should be fine. What makes the Indian team unique is that it’s consistently playing risk-free cricket. And that’s because we emphasize on the ones and the twos. As a batting group, we are not obsessed with the number of boundaries we’ve hit. But we discuss strike-rotation a great deal. Which is why we’re able to eschew risks,” Bangar was quoted as saying by Bangalore Mirror.

Bangar was also not much perturbed by England and Pakistan consistently making scores of over 330 in the ongoing ODI series back in the UK, where the World Cup is going to be held. He said that for him, its about getting his players out of the T20 mode and get them ready to play 50-over cricket after two months of IPL.

“In T20, you’re all the time expecting what the bowler will bowl. You end up planning beforehand looking at field placements… The go-to balls for most bowlers are analyzed in detail. Batsmen start expecting such deliveries. In 50 overs where you have more time and are getting 300 deliveries instead of 120, you need to be mindful of not premeditating shots for the major part of the innings,” he further added.
