Sheldon Cottrell’s salute celebration has been trending in the ongoing World Cup. It is the left-arm pacer’s way to pay tribute to the Jamaican Defence Force (JDF). Rather, many of the youngsters have been imitating the celebration to leave the Cottrell delighted. Unfortunately, his bowling hasn’t been enough for the Windies more than one match in the tournament. They were knocked out of the World Cup after a crushing loss at the hands of India on Thursday.
However, during the action at the Old Trafford, Mohammed Shami was funnily seen emulating Sheldon Cottrell’s celebration after he got out. Yuzvendra Chahal pinned Cottrell in front of the stumps in the 30th over of the innings to take India one step closer to the victory. After the dismissal, the replays showed that Shami imitated the salute celebration to leave Virat Kohli and others in splits.
While some of the fans didn’t like Mohammed Shami’s actions and slammed him for disrespecting the Army, Sheldon Cottrell was super cool in his response when asked about the same.
Cottrell’s response in Hindi
Interestingly, Sheldon Cottrell responded in Hindi on his official Twitter handle and played down any controversy around disrespecting the army. He took Mohammed Shami imitating his celebration in a sporting manner. “Great fun! Great bowling. Nakal Karna Hi Sabse Badi Chaploosi Hai,” Cottrell, wrote in his tweet.
As far as Sheldon Cottrell’s performance in the game is concerned, he picked two wickets in his 10-over spell conceding 50 runs. The left-arm seamer sent back Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami in the penultimate over of the innings to halt India’s progress. Despite his efforts though, the Caribbeans lost the match without putting up a fight and have been knocked out of the tournament now.
Nevertheless, Sheldon Cottrell is an exceptional bowler and if he manages to stay from injury, the 29-year-old will go on to play for the next few years for the Windies.
