Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the sporting events have come down to a halt. The effects are so bad that BCCI had to postpone the tournament to mid-April. Furthermore, the vital T20 World Cup 2020 is also five months away from its commencement.
The sporting industry has also been hit with a major blow after the COVID-19 pandemic. The majority of the tournaments have either been postponed or abandoned due to the same. The government is in consent to protect everyone from the life-threatening virus. It has taken several lives across the globe and there is no stopping to its transmission. Even a global event like the Tokyo Olympics has also been postponed for a year and it will now be held next year.
Rohit Sharma requests people to stay indoors
Many people have come forward and joined hands with their government in the fight against Coronavirus. Recently, Narendra Modi, the honourable Prime Minister of India had requested the people switch their light off and light candles on April 5 to show solidarity in the fight against the coronavirus outbreak. The citizens accepted the request of their PM and did the activity for 9 minutes at 9 pm. Meanwhile, some people lost the plot and started burning crackers instead of candles.
Hence, Rohit Sharma, the Indian opener opened up over the same on social media. He said that the World Cup is still very far. He also requested everyone to say indoors as the novel virus is still spreading at a very high rate. The Indian opener took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Stay indoors India, don’t go out on the streets celebrating. World Cup is still some time away.”
The much-awaited T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin from October in Australia. However, the clouds of uncertainty are hovering over the marque event due to the novel virus pandemic that has made conditions from bad to worse across the globe. The chances are high that the tournament might get postponed to next year like the Olympics.
