It seems that Indian skipper Yash Dhull is peaking at the right time in the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup 2022 in the West Indies. The batter is not just by leading the team from the front but also by making his bat do the talking. He played a captain’s knock to perfection with a match-winning century in the semifinal against Australia at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua. Dhull’s run-a-ball 110 powered India to 290/5 in their 50 overs which eventually proved to be beyond the reach of the Aussies.

With an emphatic 96-run win, the Indian team steamrolled into the finals to meet England on Saturday (February 5). Meanwhile, the U19 team captain’s father Vijay Dhull is confident that the trophy would come back to India this time around. At the same time, he also added that the emerging batter has a very sharp cricketing mind which will play an instrumental role in bringing the cup back home.

The entire nation is expecting them to do well, says Yash Dhull’s father

“Definitely the World Cup will come to India as the team is performing so well then they deserve it. There is no doubt that the other team has also performed well to get there and the aim is only one. The entire nation is expecting them to do well and why not after all they are doing so well.” Yash Dhull’s father Vijay was quoted as saying NDTV.

“Yash’s cricketing mind is very sharp and he takes things very seriously. He picks up very quickly on what batters will do during such a situation. Which bowler should be put against which batter. He also makes quick changes. Once I asked him what you do then he told me that he keeps an eye on what batter is doing and where he is making a mistake and then accordingly which bowler will be able to bowl him better. His main focus is over there”, he added.

Chasing 291, only middle-order batter Lachlan Shaw offered some resistance with a fighting 51 as the Aussies were bundled out for just 194 in the 42nd over. The Indian Coltshave now made it to their fourth straight U-19 World Cup final. They will now be hunting for a record fifth title and Yash Dhull has a chance to feature in the elite list that includes the likes of Mohammad Kaif (2000), Virat Kohli (2008), Unmukt Chand (2012), and, Prithvi Shaw (2018) to lift the coveted trophy for India.
