India had a horrendous tour to New Zealand where they suffered a whitewash in ODI and Test series. It was surprising to watch that one of the best teams lost in such a fashion. Now, Wasim Jaffer, the former Indian cricketer has opened over the same and feels that World’s number one team can’t be beaten like this.
Virat Kohli and Co. suffered 3-0 defeat in ODI series followed by their whitewash in the longer format. It was the first series defeat for Team India as far as the aforementioned formats are concerned. The hosts outclassed Team India with sheer dominance and the Men in Blue were left clueless against the Kiwi force. Also, players had to face the heat of the fans and cricketing fraternity. Everyone was surprised that how a team that didn’t lose a single series since 2019 World Cup faced back-to-back defeats.
‘India is strong in all the departments’: Wasim Jaffer
Now, Wasim, Jaffer the former Indian cricketer said that he was very disappointed with the way Team India lost against New Zealand. Firstly, they won the T20I series and then they lost ODI as well as Test series in a row. A number one side can never be defeated in the way Team India lost, according to Jaffer.
Team India has the ability to win overseas series but they have failed so far in doing the same. As per Jaffer, the performance of the national side will be always judged on how they did in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. It is well known that defeating India in India is quite difficult. If they win at least Test series in the aforementioned countries, then everyone will be convinced that they are the number one side in the world.
“I myself was very disappointed by the NZ tour. India had won the T20Is so well 5-0 but then they lost ODIs and Tests one-sided. The team is so strong in each department and that is why I was more disappointed. We shouldn’t be beaten like this when you are the no. 1 in the world and you plan to stay on the top and dominate like AUS and WI. But those teams are so known only because they dominated outside of the home.
India too has these capabilities but we are not being able to do that the way we should. We won a historic series in AUS but none in SA, ENG and NZ. A team is judged as great only if we dominate in these places. Everyone knows that beating India in India is very difficult – be it any team. But only if we win Test series in these places, we would be convinced that this really is the world no.1 team,” Wasim Jaffer said as quoted by India Today.
