World T20 2016: Bangladesh Player Ratings
Bangladesh couldn’t live up to the expectations of their cricket crazy fans. The Bangla Tigers had slowly built a very extraordinary reputation in the sub-continental condition. They entered the World T20 after finishing as the finalists of the Asia Cup T20, overcoming the likes of Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. It was highly anticipated that they would spring a surprise in the tournament but their time in India was totally disappointing. They failed to win a single match Super 10 Stage, losing all their matches against Australia, New Zealand, India, and Pakistan.
Mashrafe Mortaza – 3/10:
Mashrafe Mortaza has been the most influential captain in Bangladesh cricket’s history. But, the 2016 ICC World T20) would certainly that one tournament which he would like to erase from his memory. He failed to contribute with both bat and ball apart from his inability to guide his team past the Super 10 Stage. Mortaza played 7 games and could make only 31 runs while taking 3 wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan – 7/10:
Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan had a fairly successful tournament as compared to his teammates. Shakib played in all 7 matches which Bangladesh played. He contributed well with the bat and made 129 runs at an average of 32.25 including a half-century against Pakistan, The all-rounder was more effective with the ball, taking 10 wickets at an average of 16.60 while maintaining an economy rate of 7.21. His best bowling performances was the 3/27 which he took against Australia respectively.
Abu Hider – 2.5/10:
Abu Hider, one of the revelations in the Bangladesh Premier League, was used sparsely by Mortaza. A left-arm fast bowler, Hider played only two games, bowling an over each in both the games. He did not claim any wicket in both the games.
Al-Amin Hossain – 6/10:
Right-arm seamer Al-Amin Hossain was ordinary in the tournament, picking up only 8 wickets in 7 games. His only notable performance in the tournament came against New Zealand where he took 2/27 at Kolkata.
Mahmudullah Riyad – 3/10:
Mahmudullah was also very below – par with the bat. Apart from his unbeaten knock of 49 against Australia in Bangalore, the right-hander did not anything significant in the Super 10 stage. He finished with on 86 runs from 7 matches.
Mohammad Mithun – 3/10:
Mohammad Mithun, regarded as a highly talented batsman, was very disappointing for Bangladesh. Mithun played in all seven games but did not get to bat in the qualifiers. However, in the Super 10 stage, all he could manage was scores of 2, 23, 1 and 11 which accounted to just 37 runs in 7 matches.
Mushfiqur Rahman – 2/10:
Mushfiqur Rahim came under the limelight for a wrong reason. The wicket-keeper batsman choked at a comfortable chase while chasing against India which resulted in a narrow 1 run win for the hosts. Apart from this blunder, Rahim did not do anything noticeable in the tournament, returning home with just 44 runs in 7 games.
Nasir Hossain – 1/10:
Nasir Hossain, the 24-year-old all-rounder, played in only one game against Netherlands in the qualifiers. He was later overlooked for the remainder of the tournament.
Sabbir Rahman – 6.5/10:
With 147 runs from 7 games at an average of 24.50, Sabbir Rahman was Bangladesh’s second highest batsman in the tournament. He wasn’t extraordinary but did his job well as a middle order batsman. His best show with the bat came against Oman after he scored a quick fire 44 off just 26 balls. Sabbir also took two wickets with his part-time off-breaks.
Saqlain Sajib – 1/10:
Slow left arm orthodox Saqlain Sajib was included in the playing XI for only once against Australia at Bangalore. It was not a great outing for him. He looked completely hapless and was smashed for 40 runs in just 3.3 overs.
Shuvagata Hom – 1.5/10:
The right-handed lower order batsman could not do anything in the limited opportunity he got with the bat. Hom was included in the main line-up in just three matches where he managed just 29 runs. His best knock in the tournament was the unbeaten 16 runs cameo he played against New Zealand.
Soumya Sarkar – 1.5/10:
Soumya Sarkar, who is regarded as one of the best batsmen in the country, was an utter disappointment. The left-hander could make only 75 runs in 7 games. The Bangladeshis had lots of hope pinned in him but he failed to deliver.
Tamim Iqbal – 7/10:
Tamim Iqbal was the best batsman of the World T20 statistically. The explosive opening batsman amassed 295 runs at an average of 73.75 in six games. One of the biggest highlights of his World T20 performance was the memorable century he hit against Oman in the qualifying rounds. But, he could have had a larger impact on his team’s performance if he had fared well in the Super 10 stage against the heavyweights. He made only 62 runs in the three games he played against Pakistan, New Zealand, and India.
Arafat Sunny – 4/10:
Left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny did not have an extraordinary World T20. He got only two games to play in the tournament. Sunny’s first game was against Netherlands where he returned wicketless while in his second game against Pakistan he did much better, picking 2/34.
Taskin Ahmed – 4/10:
Taskin Ahmed was in news due to his ICC suspension. Taskin was suspended mid-way through the tournament against by ICC for illegal bowling action the fast bowler played in all the qualifiers but could play only in the teams’ first clash against Pakistan. He had played four games and taken 3 wickets before getting banned temporally.
