The World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle marks the third edition of the red-ball ICC competition. The cycle will commence with Australia locking horns with England in a five-match Test series in their quest to lift the Ashes, slated to be held from June 16 to July 31.
Much like the previous editions, the WTC 2023-25 too will be played for a span of two years with 67 matches in the group phase followed by a one-off final for the coveted mace. One of the major highlights of the upcoming cycle is the five-match series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy wherein Australia will host team India at home. Notably, the two sides contested a four-match series in the 2021-23 cycle and upon mutual agreement between the two cricket boards, two sets of five Test matches will be played until 2027.
India, Australia, and England will play the most number of matches in the forthcoming cycle, as they are set to feature in 20, 21, and 22 games, respectively. After the conclusion of the group phase, the top two teams in the WTC 2023-25 Points Table will qualify for the summit clash of the red-ball ICC event.
The forthcoming cycle is likely to follow the revamped rules as set for the previous cycle which essentially means that each Test will account for 12 points for a win, four for a draw, and six for a tie. In addition to this, the standings will be determined by the percentage of points collected. Though all teams participating in the event may not play the same amount of matches, each team will play six series in the WTC 2023-25, featuring three at home and three away.
