Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Irfan made the world take notice in early hours of August 26 as he recorded the best bowling spell in T20 cricket. He is in the Caribbean playing for the Barbados Tridents and in the CPL match against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Irfan returned with figures of 4-3-1-2.

The humongous pacer bowled four overs in the match, three of which were maiden and conceded just one run. In fact, the first 23 balls of his quota were dots and spent the only run on the ultimate delivery of his spell. He was just phenomenal and not batter seem to have a clue on how to tackle his challenge on the day.

Irfan with his spell broke the joint record for the best bowling effort in T20s held by Chris Morris and Chanaka Welegedara who recorded that in the 2014 edition of Ram Slam T20 and Sri Lankan T20 competition in 2015 where they conceded only two runs in their four overs.

The previous record for the fewest runs conceded by any bowler in a T20 game where he bowled all the four overs was by Shoaib Malik who gave away three runs in the CPL 2013 and he also did that while playing for Barbados Trident.

Among those who lauded the 7ft tall cricketer is former Pakistani pacer, Shoaib Akhtar. The Rawalpindi Express who himself has several bowling records to his name congratulated Irfan on his world record achievement and mentioned that it was a proud moment for the entire nation.

Akhtar tweeted- “Congrats @M_IrfanOfficial for making the world record for the most economical four over bowling figures in the history of T20 cricket: 4-3-1-2. #Proudmoment #Pakistanzindabad #cricketer”

Irfan’s tweet:

After the conclusion of the contest, that his team unfortunately lost, 36-year-old tweeted- “Truly honored & humbled to make the world record for the most economical four over bowling figures in the history of T20 cricket: 4-3-1-2. Thanks @CPL & @BIMTridents. Also I can’t say it enough but Caribbean people are pure love.”
