You wouldn’t coach a young player to hold a bat like Steve Smith does: Nasser Hussain

Steve Smith is turning out to be one of the best batsmen of all time. He has been playing with a technique different to every batsman in the world. Joe Root, Kane Williamson, and even Virat Kohli have a superior technique than that of Smith but they still manage to fall behind Smith in Test cricket. He averages over 70 since 2014.

He has scored over 1000 runs in each calendar year since 2014. He has also managed to score five centuries in each of the last four years. Even then, his shuffle across the stumps makes him prone to lbws. However, bowlers fail to get him out that way. There has been numerous analysis and countless comments on him but he is manage to pull it off with brilliant success.

Nasser Hussain in awe of Smith

Writing for news.sky.com, Nasser Hussain was praising Smith like no one before. He said that you would not tell a young man to hold the bat like the Australian cricketer does but you would surely want him to perform the way he does. His hand-eye coordination, his mental strength and also his patience are something to learn from.

England tried to make get him out poking outside the off stump but he didn’t fall for it and made the bowlers bowl where he wanted to. He has scored 426 runs in three Tests thus far and averages a staggering 142 in the Ashes. He has made a fool out of all the English bowler as they don’t know how to stop him.

“At the moment his bat looks six-foot wide. He has got an insatiable appetite for runs. You can see when he bats, he gets in that little bubble. He’s almost oblivious to everything that’s going on around him, except the ball that is coming out of the bowler’s hand,” Nasser articulated.
