The second edition of the Women’s Premier League began on Friday, February 23 as Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) took on each other in the curtain raiser of the event at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, in Bengaluru. The game was a repeat of last year’s final where MI emerged victorious by beating Delhi in the final and were crowned the first-ever champions of the coveted title.
After trumping MI in an enthralling Eliminator, Royal Challengers Bangalore women on Sunday (March 17) scripted history as they managed to achieve the impossible and won their first Women’s Premier League (WPL) title. Defeating Delhi Capitals women in the summit clash of the tournament. Star all-rounder Ellyse Perry finished as the tournament’s highest run-getter with 341 runs and seven wickets to her name in nine games.
With the ball, Shreyanka Patil finished as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets to her name in eight innings. She was closely followed by teammate Asha Shobhana who took 12 wickets to her name.
With the second season of the tournament coming to a close, the fans witnessed yet another spectacular season of the WPL with Royal Challengers Bangalore emerging victorious in the end, as the party was once again spoiled for Delhi Capitals women.
