Popular franchise Mumbai Indians Women (MUM-W) lifted their record second Women's Premier League (WPL 2025) title by beating Delhi Capitals Women by a eight-run narrow margin. Notably, the thrilling encounter took place at the renowned Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, on Saturday, Match 15, 2025. While Mumbai now have the most number of titles, Delhi were unlucky for third time as this was their third loss for the Meg Lanning-led side.
Apart from Mumbai Indians Women, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women (RCB-W) are the only other winners of the coveted T20 cricket league. Meanwhile speaking of the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side, MUM-W won lifted the title for the first time back in the year 2023. DC-W were at the receiving end on that occasion as well as they were trumped by seven wickets at the same venue where the 2025 edition was played. In the following year, Delhi Capitals Women yet again made it to another final of the WPL. But their fate didn't change and their losing streak in the final continued. The only difference was that this time around, the winners were the Smriti Mandhana-led side, RCB-W. Notably, this was Bengaluru's maiden WPL title and the game was played at the renowned Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
As far as the history of the league is concerned, the Women's cricket carnival began in 2023, where five teams viz- Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and UP Warriorz battle it out for the ultimate glory. Besides, the 2025 edition will be played across Mumbai, Lucknow, Bengaluru, and the newly built Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. When it comes to awards winners, English all-rounder Natalia Sciver-Brunt won the Orange Cap for her remarkable 523 runs in the season. She was also adjudged as the 'Player of the tournament' as well. While the Purple Cap winner was the New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr, who picked 18 wickets during the WPL 2025.
