Senior wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha on July 2 (Saturday) received the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). The right-handed batter had previously sought a NOC from the association after some tussle between him and CAB. He will now play for Tripura as the mentor-cum-captain from next season
To note, CAB joint secretary Debabrata Das had previously questioned Saha’s commitment to State cricket which did not go down well with the senior batter as he stated that he felt sad about the statement after playing for the state for so many years and giving his best.
We wish him the very best in his future endeavours: CAB said in a statement
“Mr. Wriddhiman Saha came to CAB and in an application to President Avishek Dalmiya sought the NOC from the association. CAB gave concurrence to the request of Mr. Saha and provided the NOC to him for playing for another state. CAB also wished him the very best for his future endeavors,” the CAB said in a statement.
After the controversy broke out, Saha was reportedly in talks with some other cricket boards including Gujarat and Baroda cricket associations, but both the associations denied it. In the end, Tripura Cricket Association managed to secure his services.
Talking about Saha’s numbers in first-class cricket, the right-handed batter has played 122 matches and has scored a total of 6423 runs at an excellent average of almost 42. The right-handed batter has also stroked 38 fifties and 13 centuries with his highest being 203*.
Saha has also represented India in the longest format of the game and the ODIs. He has played 40 Test matches for his country and amassed 1353 runs at an average of 29.41 with six half-centuries and three hundreds. The senior batter was also a part of the new entrants Gujarat Titans (GT) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Opening the batting, the right-handed batter played several crucial knocks for his team as the Titans went on to win the title in their first attempt.
