Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel believes his India teammate Wriddhiman Saha is the best in the world when it comes to wicketkeeping. Lavishing praise on the Bengal man, Parthiv Patel said that he has no doubts whatsoever over Saha being the best wicketkeeper in the world. Parthiv was all praise for Saha’s technique and work ethics.
Saha spent around a year on the sidelines and made his comeback to the playing eleven during the home series against South Africa after being benched on the tour of West Indies. With Rishabh Pant not being able to do well in the Caribbeans, India recalled Saha in the playing eleven for the tough Indian pitches and the veteran fully justified that call.
Saha did extremely well behind the stumps and took some breathtaking catches throughout the home season. Saha’s performance against the swinging pink-ball was a masterclass as he once again showed why he is regarded so highly by the team-management.
“Obviously, Wriddhi is the best wicketkeeper in the world at the moment. His technique, wicketkeeping style, the way he takes catches and his energy on the field make him the best. So no doubt, he’s the best. “I have been on some tours with him and practised with him too. The way he goes about his business puts him above the rest,” Parthiv Patel told reporters at the Eden Gardens as quoted by Telegraph India.
Wriddhiman Saha to remain as number one choice for Team India
While everyone is looking forward to the competition between Saha and Pant, Parthiv Patel believes that the former would remain India’s No. 1 wicketkeeper in Test matches as long as he’s playing international cricket. Parthiv, who is currently playing for Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy, also had a word of advice for young Pant.
“Wriddhi knows what his job is. No one needs to tell him anything. The way he has performed behind the stumps, he will remain India’s first choice in Tests,” said Parthiv Patel.
“When you are in the national team, you need to concentrate on your game and look to cash in on the opportunity… Just look to enjoy the occasion. That you are in the team means you have the backing of the team management and the selectors. So, just look to express yourself,” he added while talking about Pant.
