Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha has opened up about the infamous controversy involving journalist Boria Majumdar. In a sensational tweet posted earlier this year, Saha had claimed that he was threatened by a journalist for not giving an interview, but chose not to reveal his name for a long time.

The right-handed batter shared the screenshots of his conversation with the journalist, tweeted about it and subsequently the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stepped in. The cricket body banned Majumdar for two years as his actions were deemed to be “in the nature of threat and intimidation”.

At first, the Indian batter said that he did not want to go public with the incident as “everyone has their own career” but the lack of regret from the journalist meant that he could not stop himself from telling his name to BCCI. As the board started its investigation on the matter, Majumdar identified himself as a journalist who asked Saha for an interview.

If the person doesn’t even have any regret, how long can you stay silent? Saha on Majumdar controversy

“My purpose was to show the world that there are journalists who can do such things to get an interview. But I got to know later that he has done such things before as well, that is why BCCI stepped in and punished him,” Saha said in an interview with Sports Today.

“I initially didn’t feel like speaking about it, because at the end of the day, everyone has their own career. But if the other person doesn’t even have any regret, how long can you stay silent?” Saha added.

Meanwhile, Majumdar has been banned by BCCI from getting accreditation as a member of the press in any of the cricket matches in India including both domestic and international. The senior journalist has also been banned for two years from taking interviews with any registered players in India. Similarly, he has also been banned from accessing any BCCI or association-owned facilities.
