Wriddhiman Saha reveals the most difficult Indian bowler to keep against

It is fair to say that Wriddhiman Saha is one of the best wicketkeepers of the current era. The Bengal keeper-batsman has had a stop-start career; one that has seen him remain under the shadows of Mahendra Singh Dhoni to then losing his spot to Rishabh Pant in 2018.

The right-hander has been plagued with a plethora of injuries during his career. Saha made his Test debut for India against South Africa in that infamous Nagpur Test after a last-minute injury had ruled Rohit Sharma out. But, it was only after MS Dhoni called time on his Test career- during the 2014-15 tour in Australia- that he managed to grab a permanent spot in the Test side.

One of the things that makes Saha a delight for purists is his immaculate foot movement while keeping wickets. During the recently concluded home Test season, Saha enthralled everyone with his stunning grabs off the seamers, especially on the leg-side.

According to the champion wicket-keeper, it is none other than the leader of the Indian fast bowling unit-Jasprit Bumrah, who tests Saha’s skills to the core. According to Saha, it is the angles that Bumrah creates that it makes it difficult for a keeper to fathom where the ball is going whenever a batsman misses the ball.

“Bumrah is the most difficult to keep to because of the angle he bowls from,” Saha said, as quoted by TimesNow. Saha added, “It’s one angle when a batsman plays the ball, and completely another when he doesn’t. For that reason, it’s important to be focused all the time while keeping to Bumrah,”

Wriddhiman Saha opens up on his dream of playing for India in the shorter formats

Saha last played an ODI for India in 2014 and is nowhere close to a call-up in white-ball cricket but the Bengal keeper-batsman hasn’t given up on the dream of once again representing India in the shorter formats.

“I don’t think anyone is satisfied playing just one format. It’s always more pleasing when you get to represent India in all formats as a player. But I want to focus on the opportunities I am currently getting and if I get a chance to play other formats I will definitely give my best to do well in those,” said Saha.
