Yashasvi Jaiswal continues his whirlwind form; hammers 185 for Mumbai in the U23 CK Nayudu Trophy
He is currently featuring in the quarterfinal of the U23 CK Nayudu Trophy for Mumbai U23 side.
India’s latest batting prodigy Yashasvi Jaiswal’s penchant for consistency and scoring daddy hundreds is a well-known fact now. And, it seems that the precocious talented southpaw’s penchant is slowly turning into an obsession. The left-hander has continued his rich vein of form in the ongoing U23 CK Nayudu Trophy.
Jaiswal racked up another daddy hundred in Mumbai’s latest fixture against Puducherry at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. He was playing his first game ever since that heartbreaking U19 World Cup final against Bangladesh and it looked he was continuing from where he had left and amassed 185 off 243 balls in an innings which was laced with 19 fours and a six.
His knock, coupled with half-centuries from Aman Khan (64), skipper Hardik Tamore (86) and Sarfaraz Khan (60*), has helped Mumbai race to 449/5 in just 110 overs in the first innings. Earlier, Puducherry had posted 209 runs in their first innings and are now left with a big job to do to make a comeback in the quarterfinal of the tournament.
Jaiswal was the heartbeat of the Indian battingunit at the U19 World Cup
Coming back to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s rise in stock in the past six months, the 18-year-old turned heads during the 2019-20 edition of the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy when he became the youngest double-centurion in the history of List-A cricket.
With the enhanced reputation, the youngster went to the U19 World Cup with the pressure of expectations to spearhead his country’s batting unit and of nailing down his credentials as the best big thing in world cricket. And, boy didn’t he do that with perfection? Yashasvi Jaiswal has faced far greater challenges in his life than this and it was testified to the hilt as he showed maturity beyond his years to score five 50+ scores in six innings.
His scores in the U19 World Cup read: 88, 105*, 62, 57*, 29*, 59. Following his run-making spree in the domestic competitions, the southpaw bagged an IPL contract of Rs 2.4 Crore from the Rajasthan Royals and the youngster is looking forward to sharing the dressing room with the likes of Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler.
“For me, it is very good opportunity to play in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals because I can go and talk with the World’s best players like Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler. I am really excited to learn from them. It will be exciting for me as it is my first IPL and I will try my best to do whatever I can,” Jaiswal said as quoted by India Today.
