Yasir Shah is all set to break 80 years old record
Shah is working hard with full fortitude and trying his level best to serve his nation in all three formats.
As they say, “Records are meant to be broken”. Pakistan’s ace spinner Yasir Shah has set his eye on becoming the quickest to complete 200 wickets in Test Cricket. He has been the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan in the longest format and has been able to impress selectors every time he comes onto bowl. In his short career, Yasir has picked 165 wickets, at an economy of 3.14.
Looks to break 80 years old record
Yasir had earlier reached 100 Test wickets in 17 Tests and 150 Test wickets in 27 Tests. With this speed, if the 31-year-old is able to reach the milestone of 200 wickets in next 7 games, he will break the 80-year-old record of Australian Clarrie Grimmett.
Talking to a Geo.tv, Yasir stated that he doesn’t play for personal records and look to contribute in the best way possible to help his nation cross the winning line every time he comes onto bowl. However, he stated, that if he is able to break the record, it will please him.
“My aim is to perform wherever I play and in whichever format, I play. I try to get maximum wickets for Pakistan. I have set my eyes on trying to take 35 wickets in the next 7 matches to complete the record of fastest to 200 wickets,” the 31-year-old bowler added.
Shah is working hard with full fortitude and trying his level best to serve his nation in all three formats. He stated that he is currently working on his fitness and will try his level best to be a part coloured jersey as well.
“I am trying to gel my place in for shorter formats as well. I am bowling well in domestic tournaments and leagues. I am now going to play the Big Bash League where I will try to perform well and prove myself eligible for T20s,” the bowler added.
Desires to Play against India
Yasir desires to play a series against India, and look forward to bowl to Indian skipper Virat Kohli. “India vs Pakistan competition is good for cricket, It is my wish to play against India and perform well for the country against India as well. And yes, I want to bowl against Kohli,” Shah added.
Shah believes he was not able to keep himself fit, which was one of the reasons for his exclusions. However, the leg break bowler believes that he has been able to match the fitness standards set by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
“Fitness is also mandatory along with performance. There’s a fitness standard set by PCB and that’s good. I am from Swabi and there were limited facilities for training, that’s why I couldn’t achieve the benchmark set for fitness,” he concluded.
