'Ye apke sath prank hua hai' - Sourav Ganguly's cryptic tweet sparks memefest on Twitter

Cricket fans from all around the world were left confused after the news of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly stepping down from his post went viral on social media. The speculations became so strong that BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had to come out and clarify that Sourav Ganguly has not resigned as BCCI President.

To note, Ganguly on June 1 (Wednesday) shared a cryptic post about ‘planning to do something that will help a lot of people’. With Ganguly speaking his mind on Twitter, several social media users opined that Ganguly might be planning to join politics. The former left-handed batter had recently met Indian home minister Amit Shah at his residence in Kolkata.

Ganguly became the BCCI president in October 2019 and has taken some vital decisions to help Indian cricket grow as the top official. Ganguly also played a key role in successfully conducting the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 and 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic phase.

Cricket has given me a lot: Ganguly wrote on his official Twitter account

“2022 marks the 30th year since the start of my journey with cricket in 1992. Since then, Cricket has given me a lot. Most importantly, it has given me the support of all of you. I want to thank every single person who has been a part of the journey, supported me, and helped me reach where I am today. Today, I am planning to start something that I feel will probably help a lot of people. I hope you continue your support as I enter this chapter of my life,” Ganguly wrote on his official Twitter account.

 

Talking about Sourav Ganguly’s numbers in international cricket, the left-handed batter played a total of 311 ODI matches and stroked a total of 11363 runs at an excellent average of 41.02. The 49-year-old also played 113 Test matches and scored 7212 at an average of 42.17. He also stroked a double hundred in his longest format career. Meanwhile, Twitter was left confused with Ganguly’s tweet as few felt it was a promotional gimmick while some trolled the former Indian skipper as well.
