2010: Shane Bond and Kieron Pollard (4.8 CR)
The highest bid in the third edition of the IPL auction is very surprising. The most expensive players were New Zealand’s Shane Bond and West Indies’ Kieron Pollard for just 4.8 crores. The Kolkata Knight Riders bought Shane Bond and the Mumbai Indians bought Kieron Pollard. The season was very competitive and the CSK became IPL champions for the first time.
The season was quite good for Shane Bond. Bond had nine dismissals to his name in eight outings. He was very well-utilized by the KKR franchise. Kieron also had a decent season. He scored 273 runs in 14 games at an average of 22.75. Kieron has been a key player for the franchise since then. He has been playing for Mumbai for 12 long seasons and is set to play the 13th one.
2011:- Gautam Gambhir (14.9 CR)
Gautam Gambhir has been the most impactful player in the history of the Kolkata Knight Riders. The franchise spent 14.9 crores for Gambhir who was in a great touch that year. Gambhir led the franchise to two IPL titles which are the only titles won by the franchises. Just after his addition to the franchise, KKR named him the skipper.
The southpaw scored 378 runs in 15 games of that season. The team reached the playoff under his captaincy which eventually lost to the Mumbai Indians in the eliminator. Gambhir’s led the KKR team to victory in 2012 as well as in 2014. KKR released him ahead of the 2018 season as he wanted to finish his career with his home franchise the Delhi Capitals.
