Yorkshire signs one year extension with David Willey

Yorkshire has recently signed David Willey for a one-year extension to his current contract. He will ply his trade at the Emerald Headingley until the end of 2019 season. The cricketer has been in impressive form notching a brilliant performance versus Lancashire with a knock of 131 and claiming 4/59 in the same match. In the next match, he smashed 71 runs and took 3 wickets against Northamptonshire.

Willey is currently playing in England’s limited-overs series versus Australia. He also represented the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He came in as a replacement of Kedar Jadhav by never got the opportunity to take the field. Since the prestigious tournament, Willey has taken part in three Royal London Cup-matches in which he has managed 202 runs and 11 wickets.

“It took a bit of time to get it sorted out. I made it very clear I wanted to play my cricket at Yorkshire and hopefully, as things unfold, it can become a long-term thing and I can contribute to Yorkshire winning trophies over the next few years,  but I’m sure over the coming years that will change.

As well as helping to win some trophies, hopefully, I can help bring through the next generation too as I get into the latter stages of my career. I really enjoy playing my cricket at Yorkshire and I’ve probably not been around as much as I’d have liked over the last few years,” Willey was quoted as saying by yorkshireccc.com.

“We’ve got a great crop of young players with an appetite to learn, improve and to go on and achieve things higher up. If I can be a help in improving them, it not only enhances their performances for Yorkshire, it could also have an impact on their international careers as well. I’d be very proud to play a part in that,” the all-round cricketer added.

Willey has been a tad expensive in national colours and hardly has been able to stay put in his position. He played in the first ODI versus Australia and picked up one wicket. Most importantly, he scored 35 useful runs in the lower order which guided his team past the finishing line at the Kennington Oval in London.
