Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli announced that he is stepping down as the captain of the Indian Test side after the 3rd Test against South Africa. The Indian side lost the series against the Proteas by a margin of 1-2.

Kohli took to social media to announce the decision. In the tweet, he thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for giving him the opportunity to lead the side, as well as his teammates for their support.

“I want to thank the BCCI for giving me the opportunity to lead my country for such a long period of time and more importantly to all the teammates who bought into the vision I had for the team from day one and never gave up in any situation. You guys have made this journey so memorable and beautiful,” stated Virat Kohli on Twitter.

Kohli also stated that he has given his best for the Indian side on the field and added that he has taken this decision with complete clarity in his heart.

“I have always believed in giving my 120 percent in everything I do, and if I can’t do that, I know it’s not the right thing to do. I have absolute clarity in my heart and I cannot be dishonest to my team,” added Kohli in his tweet.

Mohammad Amir showers praise on Virat Kohli

Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Amir has stated that Kohli is the ‘leader’ of the upcoming generation of cricketers and will act as an inspiration for all youngsters. Amir also hopes that Kohli continues to ‘rock’ on and off the field as well.

“Virat Kohli, brother for me u are a true leader of upcoming generation in cricket because u are inspiration for young Cricketers. Keep rocking on and off the field,” read the tweet from Mohammad Amir.

Mohammad Amir represented the Pakistan side in 36 Tests, 61 ODI matches as well as 50 T20I games. He last played for Pakistan in August 2020.
