'You are in my prayers,' tweets Eoin Morgan for Kerala flood victims
The cricketing community has also come out to help the people in Kerala.
The tragic state of affairs in Kerala for the past few days has rocked the entire world. The floods that have hit the state are being termed as one of the worst in recent times. The cricketing community has been widely speaking about the same and urging people to support those affected. England limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan also tweeted his support and joined the list of people concerned worldwide.
In what can only be termed as a calamity, Kerala has been flood-stricken since the past one week and the conditions are being said to be the worst in a hundred years. Heavy rains have been the primary reason of the floods. The rainfall, which was initially expected to measure 244.1 mm has turned out to be 619.5 mm, bringing on unprecedented floods.
Cricketers come out in support of people in Kerala
Morgan tweeted in solidarity with the people stricken by the Kerala floods and said that his thoughts and prayers are with the people affected by the Kerala floods. The death toll has already crossed the 300-mark and thousands have been left homeless. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi recently announced a INR 500 crore relief package for the state to help the people out of their misery.
Eminent non-Indian cricketers like AB de Villiers and Danielle Wyatt also tweeted in support of the people of Kerala. Mass donations are being sought from all parts of the globe to alleviate the situation. Young batsman-wicketkeeper Sanju Samson also joined the list of contributors by generously donating Rs 15 lakhs towards Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.
Torrential rains have brought on the floods and a fresh red alert has been issued in 11 districts of the state a few hours back. Rescue missions via helicopters and continuous distribution of relief measures have been deployed in the state to help the affected. With England and India currently involved in an epic 5-Test match series, it was a truly noble gesture from Morgan to tweet about the situation, thus displaying the kinship that the game promotes.
