One of the finest fast bowlers going around at the moment, Shaheen Afridi showcased his batting prowess on Monday (February 21) and left the cricket world stunned. Lahore Qalandars, chasing 159 against Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 2022, looked entirely down and out after being reduced to 94/6 in 14.4 overs. However, in walked their skipper and played a sensational knock.

With the help of four maximums and two fours, Shaheen smashed an unbeaten 39 off 20 deliveries as the game ended in a tie. His efforts, however, went in vain as the Peshawar-based side sealed the game in the super over. Nonetheless, Shaheen’s blitzes with the bat earned massive praises from different quarters. Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi was among many to laud the youngster.

Shahid Afridi goes down memory lane following Shaheen’s blitzes

Following the conclusion of the contest, Shahid took to Twitter and shared a collaged picture of Shaheen and himself. While one snap was from Shaheen’s blitzes against Peshawar Zalmi, other was from Shahid’s playing days for Pakistan. “SHAHEEN AFRIDIIII YOU BEAUTYYY!!!” the former Pakistan skipper captioned the picture. It must be noted that Shaheen is engaged to Shahid’s eldest daughter Aqsa Afridi.

Meanwhile, the Lahore Qalandars captain, after the match, revealed that he has been working on his batting to contribute which need arises. He also said that mistakes in the field cost Qalandars the game. “Have been practicing my batting in the nets to ensure that I can contribute to the team with the bat if needed. Will try to improve more if possible,” said the left-arm pacer in the post-match conversation.

“Talking about the match, Peshawar played really well but we weren’t good enough on the field. If we had taken our catches, we could have won the game. Hopefully, we can do well in the playoffs,” he added. Meanwhile, PSL 2022 is done and dusted with the group-stage games and now the action moves to the playoffs. With a place in the final at stakes, Lahore Qalandars will meet table-toppers Multan Sultans in the Qualifier on February 23.
