Pat Cummins, the Australian fast bowler, has set his goals straight for the upcoming Test, ODI and T20I series against India. The speedster understands the importance of picking up Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s wicket and has been planning to “keep him quiet”. Kohli has been a key component of the Indian setup and has scored runs all across the world.

Last time when India toured Australia in 2018-19, Kohli became the first Indian skipper to win a Test series on Australian soil. He also scored a century on the previous tour and Team India will be looking up to him to deliver some match-winning performances. Cummins reckons that dismissing Kohli cheaply can put the home team on the driver’s seat.

He is always a big one, says Pat Cummins

“I think every side has that one or two batters and they are the big wickets. Most teams have their captain – Joe Root for England, Kane Williamson for New Zealand. You feel like if you get their wickets, that goes a long way in winning the game…

“He [Virat Kohli] is always a big one. You commentators talk about him non-stop, so hopefully, we can keep him quiet,” Cummins said in an interview with Fox Cricket.

Over the last three months or so, most of the Australian cricketers have been in the thick of things. The Aussies toured England after which few of their players took part for various teams in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Cummins feels that playing non-stop cricket will keep them in good stead going into the upcoming matches.

“I feel like our preparation has actually been really good. We went over to the UK and had a good tour there. Most of the boys here have been playing 14 T20 matches in the last few weeks and the other guys coming in will be playing shrewd cricket. So, it feels like we are all firing up and got a lot of stuff behind us,” he added.

Cummins himself played in the IPL, representing the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Back in December 2019, he became the most expensive foreign buy in the history of the T20 championship. Moreover, Cummins is currently the number-one ranked bowler in Test cricket.
