England’s newly-appointed limited-overs skipper Jos Buttler is known for his cool and calm demeanor and very rarely he has lost his composure on the field. However, Buttler lost his patience when a reporter repeatedly asked him whether India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is the best.
Notably, Bumrah rattled the English batting line-up in the first ODI. The wicket offered a lot of seam movement upfront and the Indian speedster made full use of the conditions, recording figures of 6/19 from his 7.2 overs that included three maidens. He was also adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning spell. Jasprit Bumrah thus became the first Indian pacer to register an ODI six-wicket haul in England.
Jos Buttler answers a journalist’s question on Jasprit Bumrah
It so happened that during the post-match press conference after England’s humiliating 10-wicket loss, a journalist reminded Jos Butter about former English skipper Nasser Hussain asking on air whether there are any betters bowlers than Jasprit Bumrah across all formats. In response, Buttler also praised Bumrah and admitted facing the speedster in challenging.
“There’s no doubt that he’s a fantastic bowler. He’s been one of the leading bowlers in the world for a number of years now. And it looks like he’s going from strength to strength. That’s the great challenge of playing against India, you get to face these fantastic bowlers and batsmen. That’s why you want to play international cricket to challenge yourself against the best. No doubt he’s one of the best and we look forward to the challenge again on Thursday to try and get the better of him,” Buttler replied.
The reporter, however, was not convinced with his answer and made it clear that the England captain had not answered his question which was regarding whether Bumrah is the best or one of the best. “You decide!,” a seemingly irate Buttler responded to end the conversation.
Jasprit Bumrah dismantled the English top-order with the new ball as he sent back the likes of Jason Roy, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, and Liam Livingstone cheaply before coming back in his second spell to clean the tail with his unplayable deliveries. Meanwhile, Bumrah became only the second Indian pacer after Ashish Nehra to register a six-wicket haul against England in ODIs.
