'You need to find more match-winners' - Harbhajan Singh feels current Indian team is over dependent on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma
He also felt that India would've won the World Cup if 3-4 players had played consistently.
Harbhajan Singh and Rohit Sharma went live on Instagram on Thursday evening giving fans some time to cherish amid the lockdown. The duo talked about a lot of things, from the ongoing pandemic to the different topics on cricket and during the chat, the off-spinner expressed his views about the current Indian team as well. According to him, the Men in Blue, at the moment, are overdependent on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
He pointed out that India has lost 70 percent of the matches whenever the duo has got out early or the top three hasn’t accumulated the runs. He also felt that self-belief isn’t there in the team that it can win the matches even after their best players get out. Harbhajan Singh also recalled the times when the team played under Sourav Ganguly or MS Dhoni stating that the players like Yuvraj Singh and others used to win the match if the top three would fail.
“The current Indian side is dependent on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The side does not have much confidence, there are good players but once Virat and Rohit get out, 70 percent of matches we tend to lose. There is a lack of self-belief. In our times, we had a lot of trust and belief,” the off-spinner said after Rohit asked him about the similarities and differences between the current and past Indian teams.
If we had 3-4 guys performing, we would’ve won the WC, says Harbhajan Singh
Moreover, while discussing about the World Cup 2019, Harbhajan Singh highlighted the way Rohit Sharma played smashing five centuries in the mega event. But he lamented the fact that the lack of match-winners lead to the team getting knocked out in the semi-finals. Bhajji felt that if India had 3-4 players performing exceptionally well, then they would’ve won the trophy easily.
“If the top three of the current Indian side are dismissed, then we have problems in winning matches, you need to find more watch winners. You had a good World Cup, but then you lose in the semi-finals, if you had 3-4 guys performing, we would have won the World Cup,” the 39-year-old further added.
