Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has stated that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side will not want to retain Glenn Maxwell ahead of the 2022 IPL mega auctions. Chopra further reasoned that RCB has a lot of options at their disposal, and Maxwell will not be one of their retentions irrespective of the number of runs that he scores with the willow.
Chopra further named the two men that the Bangalore side will want to retain ahead of the IPL mega auctions in 2022. The 43-year-old stated that RCB will surely retain their skipper and batting talisman Virat Kohli.
The second player whom the RCB side will retain according to Chopra is South African cricketer AB de Villiers. Chopra also termed de Villiers as an ageless wonder and a miracle.
“RCB have options. Whichever team has options, it means they are very nicely placed in terms of their whole resources. I don’t think you will want to retain Maxwell however many runs he scores. You never know which side of him will turn up. Kohli is your first retention, you will want to keep AB de Villiers at No.2, he is an ageless, timeless wonder. He is a miracle. You will want to keep these two,” said Chopra while speaking on his YouTube Channel.
RCB should use their RTM on Chahal and Padikkal: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra further said that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side will want to use their Right To Match (RTM) card on Yuzvendra Chahal and Devdutt Padikkal. Stating that RCB should retain the core of Kohli, de Villiers, Chahal, and Padikkal, Chopra concluded by stating that the Virat Kohli-led side can then start afresh in the IPL auctions.
“You will definitely want to use your RTM on two players. One is Yuzi Chahal and the other is Devdutt Padikkal. These will be the four players in my mind, you should try to keep these four with you because if you keep them, your core will be ready. After that, you can start afresh,” concluded Aakash Chopra.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore side will play their first match of the second leg of the IPL on 20th September 2021, against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) outfit in Abu Dhabi.
