For a long time now, team India has been experimenting to find a perfect batting line-up. Everything from trying multiple batsmen at number 4 to demoting players to lower positions, has been tried out. But the problem doesn’t seem to end at all.
Shreyas Iyer is also one such batsman who has been tried at different positions over the last year or so and still does not have a fixed spot to bat in. While players like Rohit Sharma, have been quoted by the media, saying Iyer will be batting at No.4, the things still are pretty unclear.
The 25-year-old from Mumbai, who is taking steps towards success, was given the responsibility to bat at No.4 in the West Indies series. He did pretty well in the role and scored consistently and looked like the perfect option for team India at No.4.
Iyer in a recent press conference said that while in team India, the player should be ready to bat anywhere in the batting order. “In this situation, you should be ready to bat at any number because it is really important to play in the team, (considering) the competition which we have now right now,” said Iyer as quoted by Firstpost.
Shreyas Iyer is open to experimenting with his batting style
He also opened up about how he is looking to experiment more with his batting style. He told, “We can’t give any reasons of batting at any particular number. Yes, it is really important for us to be focused and not to cry about why we haven’t been batting at a similar position.
Experimentation is something we are looking forward to. Hopefully, we will get a good number for each batsman. This is the time we should try and experiment things and hopefully it will work-out in the future.”
Team India, currently playing a three-match ODI series against Australia, lost the first match by ten wickets. The loss came in as a big jolt to the side that had been doing pretty well in the recent past. And, with the third ODI all set to be played at Rajkot on the 17 January and the Men in Blue, led by Virat Kohli will look to make a strong comeback. And, Shreyas Iyer’s performance in the middle will be in everyone’s focus.
