England all-rounder Ben Stokes opted out of IPL 2022 as he did not even put his name in the mega auction. However, there is no doubt that he would have gone for huge bucks had he participated. Mumbai Indians have had a losing start with four losses in four games already in this edition, and there has been a lot of talk over their auction strategy to buy Jofra Archer for big money despite being available only from next year.

Rohit Sharma decided to go in with just two overseas players in their previous game against Royal Challengers Bangalore despite having the overseas resources at his disposal. After losing the game, Rohit noted about missing a few overseas players who had played a big part in their team structure and there could be an outside possibility for Mumbai Indians to go for Stokes in the next IPL auction.

Former Mumbai Indians player Mitchell McClenaghan wondered in a tweet, stating how much would Mumbai have to pay to get in the all-rounder into the side in the next auction (possibility) as he will be one of the targets for every franchise. Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris felt that is not an easy task, bagging the services of Stokes, as every team will be looking to go all out for him in the auction next year.

Mumbai Indians desperate for a win

Stokes was picked up for a staggering INR 14.5 crore in IPL 2017 by the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, and subsequently, Royals bagged his services for INR 12.5 crore in the mega auction in 2018, which shows the amount of value he brings to the table. The all-rounder is a match-winner with both bat and ball and can be the perfect fit for Mumbai Indians who have been hugely affected by the absence of the Pandya brothers. The five-time champions will be hoping to turn the tables in the season soon as they are currently lying at the bottom of the standings.
